Cinco Energy Management Group, a leading oil & gas-focused land management firm, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. In 1990, the current CEO and Founder Randy Nichols established the company as Cinco Land & Exploration Company. Building upon his early career as a company landman for independent E&Ps, Nichols started the company to provide superior quality land and title services to the oil and gas industry. The name “Cinco” was inspired by the five members of the Nichols family and the company’s first project in a Spanish-speaking area of South Texas.
Today, Cinco Energy’s services are more extensive and backed by expertise that stems from their 30 years of experience. Since day one, it’s been the company’s mission to help clients make the best decisions to maximize their oil and gas investments. By carefully watching the market, Cinco Energy has been able to continually expand and shift the focus in favor of providing this white-glove client service. In 1992, Cinco turned their attention to due diligence as more companies were divesting and consolidating their properties. In 2007, when Chesapeake Energy founded the shale revolution, Cinco Energy staged land teams across the US to run titles and successfully buy leases in some of the most competitive shale plays and accommodate the needs of E&P’s companies in terms of leasing. In that same year, Cinco Energy opened its first office outside of Texas to help businesses in Sacramento, California, develop new gas reserves.
“For any organization, this is an incredible milestone. Our specific industry rapidly involves, with no two days being the same. Through the hard work, passion, and dedication of our team members, we’ve been able to evolve alongside the oil and gas sector,” said President Camille Nichols. “We’ve achieved our 30-year success by pairing our collective experience in areas like due diligence, leasing, GIS Mapping, and acquisitions with technology-driven practices. As long as our team is inspired, we will keep refining and perfecting our work!”
Over the last 30 years, Cinco Energy has worked in every major shale basin in the United States, providing their knowledge and skillsets on numerous land projects. Most notably, Cinco Energy helped establish state-owned Chinese national oil companies Sinopec, CNOOC, and Sinochem’s first land position in the US as part of joint ventures with Chesapeake, Devon, and Pioneer. The relationship lasted for five years and enabled exponential growth for Cinco Energy. At the end of this partnership, Cinco Energy opened several offices across the country and moved its headquarters to a larger space in Houston. Throughout the remainder of 2020, Cinco Energy will continue to take pride in what they’ve achieved while looking toward the future.
